5G-MOBIX captivates @ Barcelona Mobile World Congress 2019
The Mobile World Congress 2019 in Barcelona, Spain was the ideal setting to launch the 5G-MOBIX website three months after the official project start. 5G-MOBIX is an essential component of the 5GPPP initiative, a collaboration between the European Commission and industry that will test and push forward 5G market deployment. At the 5GPPP stand which also hosted other 5G projects, we talked with Colin Willcock, Chair of the 5G Infrastructure Association (5G-IA) and Mikael Fallgren, chair of the 5GPPP Automotive Working Group and ERTICO partner at Ericsson.
‘There are two possibilities for 5G, either we simply make our smart phones faster or, my real hope, is that we can achieve the full promise of 5G and digitise our industries and solve some of the global challenges that face us” said ’Colin Willcock.
At the MWC, ERTICO presented 5G-MOBIX with Turkcell, the Turkish digital operator involved in the Greece-Turkey x-Border corridor and 5G-MOBIX project partner.
“Turkcell is super excited about this project and MWC19 in Barcelona is the perfect place to present it. We have had over 300 visitors asking us questions and looking at our platooning demonstration. It is a real opportunity to show what we are going to do” said Nazli Gurney, Turkcell’s Project Manager for 5G-MOBIX. A live platooning demo on the stand presented the situation of a truck platoon crossing a border with 5G connectivity enabling efficient self-driving truck control. This is Turkcell’s first collaboration with ERTICO and the company’s first involvement in a Horizon2020 project.
