Is it possible for a truck to cross the busy Greek -Turkish border seamlessly, without (any action from the) driver or requirement to stop? Today the Greek and Turkish partners of the 5G-MOBIX project will demonstrate exactly that and convince the public that connected and automated mobility (CAM) is not some futuristic scenario but is occurring now, even under challenging circumstances such as crossing hard land borders.

The International project 5G-MOBIX will initiate cross-border trials in the third quarter of 2021. In November 2015, a Citroën car became the first car to complete the highway trajectory between Vigo and Madrid without the intervention of the driver. Supported by a GPS navigator, integrated radars, scanners, digital cameras, and an electronically guided switchboard, the prototype adjusted its speed and overtaking during the 599 kilometer-long trajectory consisting of highways and roads. Apart from the car itself, the highways that it circulates on are just as important and the new trials of the European project 5G-MOBIX, created to deploy and evaluate 5G services that will support connected mobility and CCAM, consist exactly of these types of tests.
This brochure aims at providing a schematic and visual summary of the key use cases, key performance indicators, and tests and pilots being conducted in the context of research and innovation projects funded by the 5G-PPP which contribute to enabling efficient and reliable 5G-V2X communications for CAM.
From 8 to 11 June, European projects 5G-MOBIX, 5G-LOGINNOV (both coordinated by ERTICO) and 5G-META (coordinated by ERTICO Partner Vicomtech) participated in the EuCNC & 6G Summit presenting their activities that advance 5G in the automotive and logistics sectors.
